New committee members announced at the GOC

The names of 14 new members appointed to the GOC’s Registration and Investigation Committees have been announced today (January 29).

Those appointed to the Registration Committee include dispensing opticians Michelle Derbyshire and Kim Devlin; optometrists Janice McCrudden and Bina Patel; and lay members Gary Ames, Susan Lee Elsmore and Kate Fielding as Chair.

New appointments to the Investigation Committee are dispensing optician Keith Cavaye; optometrists Lisa Gerson and Kamlesh Gohil; ophthalmologist Stuart Roxburgh; and lay members Stuart Heatherington, Michael Yates and James Kellock as Chair.

GOC chief executive and registrar, Dian Taylor commented: “The Registration and Investigation Committees play a pivotal role in the decisions that affect both registrants and the public. We had a very positive response to the recruitment campaign, resulting in a large number of high-calibre applicants to both committees. Council members and GOC staff look forward to working with the new committee members, to deliver proportionate and transparent regulation of the optical professions.”

Members on the Registration Committee will advise the regulator’s Council on several issues relating to registration, while those on the Investigation Committee will consider evidence on fitness to practise complaints and decide what course of action should be taken.
