The Love Eyewear Awards 2024 celebrated innovation, creativity, and sustainability in the eyewear industry.

The award ceremony was hosted on 24 February, during the 10th edition of 100% Optical.

Recognising brands across 13 categories, the awards received a record-breaking number of entries this year.

New for 2024, organisers introduced a surprise Lifetime Achievement Award.

Selin Pera, senior marketing executive at 100% Optical, explained: “As we come to a new decade of 100% Optical, it was important for us to reflect back on our 10 years and reflect on the leaders in the industry.”

The award was presented to l.a. Eyeworks, founded by Barbara McReynolds and Gai Gherardi.

Pera congratulated the co-founders, describing them as “true pioneers who are so authentically themselves and taking the industry by storm. These two women are truly an inspiration to many and it is an honour for us to award them and the rest of the l.a. Eyeworks team the Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Gherardi, co-founder and designer of l.a. Eyeworks, commented: “It was our early experiences as opticians that inspired Barbara McReynolds and me to begin l.a. Eyeworks in 1979, with a dream of celebrating faces and a mission to change the conversation about eyewear.”

“From the start we followed our intuition, and that, along with tremendous support from free-thinking frame lovers around the world, has carried us to this moment 44 years later to humbly receive this wonderful honour from 100% Optical with heartfelt gratitude,” she added.

Winners of the Love Eyewear Awards were selected by a panel of judges made up of designers, artists, academics, journalists and influencers.

The Budapest-based brand, Okkul, founded by Zsanett Fabin and Zsófi Daisy Késmárky, received the award for New Designer 2024.

Woody’s Eyewear was awarded Women’s Frame of the Year for ‘Sabine 04,’ with Melanie Scott, UK country director for the brand, commenting: “I’m very proud to receive the Love Eyewear Award, I’m very passionate about the products.”

“I want to thank 100% Optical for giving us the platform to be here, and to the judges who voted for the Love Eyewear Awards,” Scott added.

Bird Eyewear was awarded for Eyewear Accessory of the Year with its zero-waste spectacle case, ‘Zero Case.’

Founder, Ed Bird, told OT: “It is really fantastic to win the award in recognition of our Zero Waste case. We’re using waste materials from frames that are sent to us from opticians and repurposing that into new products that will have a second life, and are also then recyclable.”

Feb 31st took the award for Best Innovation with Jason Robinson, UK director at the brand, commenting: “It is great to be recognised for something that we see as an innovation product, because our brand is about allowing the end user total freedom of creativity and design – to be given an award for innovation means a lot to us. We’re really proud.”

Celebrating practices, Gogosha Optique received the award for Eyewear Retailer of the Year, and Finch Optical was recognised with Most Engaging Practice Window.
