On 1 January 2022, the regulator’s CET scheme will be replaced by the new CPD scheme.
CET’s last hoorah
Have you secured your CET points? Achieve your points before the end of the cycle with OT’s CET Survival Pack.
Registrants are invited to join the GOC’s Zoom webinar to learn more about the reason for the change to CPD and what this will mean for optical professionals.
The GOC also plans to discuss the new requirements, which will be introduced to make the scheme more flexible.
A summary of the CPD scheme and its requirements can be found in the GOC’s new registrant guide.
Registrants can sign up online to attend the GOC’s virtual event on 14 December at 5pm.
CPD: key features
- The new CPD scheme begins on 1 January 2022
- Like CET, the new scheme will run on a three-year cycle
- Optometrists and dispensing opticians will need to gain 36 points over a three-year cycle, including 18 interactive points
- CPD will cover four domains of: professionalism, communication, clinical practice, and leadership and accountability. Registrants will need to achieve points from all core domains
- All registrants will be required to participate in a peer review, and will also need to carry out a reflective exercise with a peer at the end of a cycle
- Some non-approved CPD can count towards a registrant’s points, provided it meets certain criteria.
Supporting members with CPD
Book in to the GOC’s webinar for more details on the new scheme. In the meantime, to read more about the change and what this will mean for professional development post-qualification, take a look at OT’s feature The ABC of CPD from the October/November 2021 issue.
Optometry Today’s new CPD content will be available to read in the December/January edition of the magazine, while the CPD exams will launch from 5 January.
To support registrants to get a head start on meeting professional development requirements under the new CPD scheme, the AOP has developed a programme of more than 130 sessions of CPD at 100% Optical. Places for the sessions can be booked online.
