The negotiating body for eye care in England has welcomed the removal of a planned requirement to notify NHS England whenever an insurance query is made.
In a statement, the Optometric Fees Negotiating Committee (OFNC) highlighted that a series of amendments to NHS performers lists regulations will take effect on 18 September.
A short consultation on the proposed changes saw the OFNC respond on a range of issues, including the planned insurance query requirement.
The OFNC shared that it made clear the proposal would place a “significant, additional, and unfunded burden” on practices through written and in-person feedback.
“We are pleased to announce that this proposed requirement was removed,” the OFNC stated.
There is a new requirement for practitioners to make an annual declaration confirming they wish to remain on the performers list and that their information is up to date.
The OFNC shared that this planned change will take effect – however, the negotiating body’s request for the requirement to be proportionate and “light touch” were heeded.
Other changes to be implemented in September include a streamlined and less time-consuming approach for returners to the list, and for applications from overseas to mirror the visa requirements for attestations of good character.
