First details of 100% Optical education programme revealed

Organisers behind 100% Optical have released details of the education programme planned for the 2023 show.

The event, taking place at London’s ExCeL centre from 25–27 February, will see around 140 continuing professional development (CPD) sessions across 11 hubs.

A new booking process has been introduced for the three-day show, which will see details of the education programme released in three phases in October, November and December.

Bookings will open in early January, with priority access provided to delegates who have registered in advance. AOP members will also receive priority before the platform opens to all delegates. Read more about the new system and what this means for delegates, here.

“As the new CPD cycle enters its second year, attendees will have the opportunity to meet the GOC’s requirements at an early stage in the year, consolidate and update their knowledge on key clinical topics, and network with clinical and commercial contacts,” Beasley added.

A peek into the programme

The education programme will include keynote lectures, discussion workshops, peer reviews and interactive poster trails with themes ranging from myopia management and clinical imaging to the role of artificial intelligence.

On the main stage, Heidelberg Engineering’s clinical affairs manager, Tim Cole, will speak on trends in optical coherence tomography (OCT) and the future of the imaging technology.

CooperVision’s Elizabeth Lumb, director of global professional affairs for myopia management, will reflect on how far the profession has come and how to accelerate the changes needed within the profession to slow down the progression of myopia.

Miriam Minihan, consultant vitreoretinal surgeon for Moorfields Eye Hospital, will present on Vitreoretinal conditions: what you need to know.

A series of peer review sessions and discussion workshops have been planned in the AOP Lounge across the three days of the show, along with content delivered by CooperVision and Johnson & Johnson Vision.

The Future Practice Hub will see a variety of clinical content, while the Dispensing Workshop will cover topics including dealing with complaints and myopia management.

Finally, the Optical Academy will see discussions explore the role of independent prescriber and the benefits of OCT in diabetic retinopathy, as well as discussion workshops on scleral contact lenses, amongst others.
