Study seeks dry eye patients to trial special contact lens
UK researchers are recruiting participants for a two-week trial of a contact lens that applies a material derived from amniotic membrane

UK researchers are seeking participants for a two-week trial of a contact lens that applies a wound-healing material.
Aston University scientists are collaborating with the Nottingham University spinout company, NuVision Biotherapies, on the project, which aims to provide relief to dry eye patients.
The contact lens applies Omnigen, a product derived from human amniotic membrane donated from caesarean sections. Before this study, Omnigen was only applied surgically.
Principal investigator, Professor James Wolffsohn, from Aston University, said that amniotic membrane has shown great promise in the management of dry eye.
“Omnigen is already successfully used throughout the NHS and the study aims to demonstrate that the wound healing benefits of Omnigen are easily transferable to those suffering and living with dry eye disease,” he said.
